The Kunsthalle Fridericianum is starting the new year full of energy with a series of exciting events: The exhibitions Nuevos Ricos by Carlos Amorales and THE VALUE OF VOID by Navid Nuur will be accompanied by concerts and an artist talk, unusual exhibition tours, workshops and discussions. Nuevos
Ricos live in concert In February the musician, artist and filmmaker Dick El
Demasiado will take the Nuevos Ricos stage. El Demasiado, who
was born in the Netherlands, is considered the “godfather of digital Cumbia”, a
type of music developed in the 1990s as an electronic variant of Colombian
Cumbia dance music. In his music, Dick El Demasiado crosses the borders of
traditional rhythms, pursuing an experimental style between rock and
electro. Navid

5 December 2009 - 14 February 2010 Carlos Amorales, Navid Nuur. As from 11 December 2009 San Keller
In December the Kunsthalle Fridericianum once again reveals itself to be an important venue for topical debates on human issues. Performativity and processuality figure prominently in three solo exhibitions. Mexican artist Carlos Amorales and Dutch artist Navid Nuur open their exhibitions on December 4, and starting on December 11, Swiss artist San Keller will present his exhibition project to the public. The exhibition Nuevos Ricos will present for the first time the entire product range and scope of the art project and record label of the same name by Carlos Amorales. The Kunsthalle Fridericianum will not only provide an overview of the history and social positioning of the project, but above all will reflect the broad artistic spectrum: The abstract ground plan of a concert hall becomes a platform for performances and concerts as well as for discussions about topics such as copyright and piracy. With the exhibition THE VALUE OF VOID Navid Nuur (born in Teheran in 1976) provides complex insight into his works, which are best described as ‘interimodules’. While Nuur’s practice shares affinities with Conceptual Art’s understanding of the relationship between idea and form, his work often differentiates this rapport through the use of imagery, which serves as a poetic intermediary between form and concept. Nuur’s pieces elicit both a reflective and an affective response, inviting the viewer to become ‘a participant in an internal world’. In an intelligent and ironic way San Keller (born in Berne in 1971) undermines conventional formats and makes institutional processes transparent. Alongside Pre-, Pre-, Pre-, Pre-, Preview the participatory performance Digestiv (Walk) additionally forms a parenthesis for the current exhibitions at the Kunsthalle Fridericianum and critically engages with them. San Keller invites visitors to take a stroll with him around the forecourt after leaving the Kunsthalle Fridericianum to discuss Nuevos Ricos and THE VALUE OF VOID with him. polski artysta z Polski: PAWEL ALTHAMER w Kassel od 4. April to 21. June 09
From April 4, 2009, Kunsthalle Fridericianum will not only be proverbially, but also literally, charged with energy. In his large exhibition Frühling, Pawel Althamer, together with many of Kassel’s children, will turn the museum into a different state of mind, while Micol Assaël, with her exhibition Fomuška, will actually electrify the place. PAWEL ALTHAMER AND CHILDREN FROM KASSEL Frühling Twelve years after the Polish artist’s participation in documenta X, Kunsthalle Fridericianum presents the new exhibition project Frühling by Pawel Althamer. By turning over the rooms in the Kunsthalle to the discretion of the children, the artist gives its interior a transforming overhaul. Intuition, emotion, spirituality, irrationality: all these are terms or definitions Pawel Althamer (born 1967 in Warsaw) uses to describe his works. His oeuvre ranges from sculptures and installations to video, performance, happening and barely perceptible artistic interventions in public space. Althamer’s work could also be seen as a social project. Kassel’s children are the protagonists and are the co-authors whom Althamer incorporates into his new exhibition project Frühling. He invites them to transform their fantasy and “unbound creativity” into little and large on-the-spot projects. The Fridericianum, highly infused with historical events, with its past as a library and an educational institute as well as its longstanding tradition as an exhibition site, thus passes through a significant transformation. Project arena, playground and sports field, dance or music school—all of this together or none of the above, the artist doesn’t want to set any limits to the children’s imagination. Opening: Friday 3 April 2009, 5 p.m. MICOL ASSAËL Fomuška In her first institutional solo exhibition in Germany, Micol Assaël impressively combines strength, power and accomplishment with extreme delicacy and sensitivity. The young Italian artist will present a machine she developed specifically for the Fomuška exhibit face to face with several hundred minimalist drawings. Micol Assaël’s artistic work is characterised by a profound fascination and passion for the laws and principles of physics and mathematics, for technology and industry, for machinery and motors. Assaël, in intense collaboration with the Moscow University of Energetic, has put together for her solo exhibition Fomuška a large and enigmatic machine that will electrostatically charge a vast space of the Fridericianum. Bolts of lightning, colourful and zigzagging, will be discharged in large clouds of steam. The physical perception and senses of the visitors will be overwhelmed and confronted with the immateriality of electricity as well as with its natural and mysterious force. This installation will be set up to contrast with 399 minimalist drawings from the artist’s early work, revealing a further insight into the diversity of her artistic means of expression and aesthetic perception. Opening: Friday 3 April 2009, 7 p.m. With the exhibitions by Althamer and Assaël the Kunsthalle follows a tradition. "Joseph Beuys' Honey Pump at the Workplace, his Free International University and his project 7000 Oaks, as well as the still present Earth Kilometre by Walter de Maria already charged the Fridericianum energetically", says Rein Wolfs, artistic director of the Kunsthalle. In the new programmatic focus of the Fridericianum both Fomuška and Frühling build two very important stations in the process of trying to formulate a contemporary "condition humaine"'. In the rotunda of the Fridericianum the wall piece LESS OIL MORE COURAGE by Rirkrit Tiravanija can still be seen until 21 June 2009 and in the Roboter Marc Bijl has left a message for all of us quoting "OH GOD I LOVE THIS WORLD". The exhibition Deutsche Grammatik by Christoph Büchel, started off with a “visual bang” ((k) kulturmagazin). While Germany’s number one press agency dpa noted that Germany's first political-party fair politica had sparked quite a scandal, the newspaper Kölner Stadtanzeiger commented: “Büchel has deliberately provoked with his show the very dilemma that is the logical consequence of his entire project: may no one escape unscathed. If the organisers had decided to explicitly uninvite a specific party [the NPD], evidence of Germany’s double moral standard would have been complete. So, for better or worse, the show must be endured.” Art - das Kunstmagazin sees in the installation “Germany’s past as a gigantic puzzle with the highest level of difficulty”, noting that: “Not infrequently, fiction seems more believable than the absurdity of real life.” While the newspaper HNA judges the exhibition to be “lunatic, complex, multifaceted. And above all: overwhelming”, the Süddeutsche Zeitung comes to the conclusion: “As a big amusement park of ‘German feelings’, this exhibition should by all means be included as a highlight in coach tours of Germany.” Education and Events Education is an important focus of the Kunsthalle Fridericianum. We open our doors and invite you to come in and take a voyage of discovery in the realm of contemporary art. Would you like to have a detailed look at our exhibition?
